@perk
Lift and grow a sprite slightly - a gesture of sudden interest or alertness.
Use @perk to lift a shown sprite and briefly make it larger, then settle it back into place. The motion suits sudden interest, recognition, or a character snapping into attention. Pair it with a line that explains what caught their eye.
Lower intensity for quiet alertness or raise it for an emphatic reaction. duration sets the pace of the gesture without leaving the sprite at a new size or position.
The story waits until the motion settles by default. Set wait=false to start the next event while it runs, such as a sound or another character's reaction. target names the sprite that performs the gesture.
Parameters
| Parameter | Kind | Required | Default | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| target | string | yes | "" | Sprite tag to target. |
| intensity | number | no | 0.7 | 0-1 × multiplier. Default 0.7. |
| duration | number | no | 0.45 | 0.2-1.5 seconds. Default 0.45. |
| wait | boolean | no | true | Block for the effect's duration when true; false fires and continues so effects can overlap. |
Canonical example
sprite show ada
say "Ada": "Wait, really?"
@perk(target=ada)
@perk lifts the sprite that target matches up a touch and grows it
slightly, then settles back to rest. It reads as sudden interest or
alertness - ears-up attention, a spark of excitement - without
swapping the sprite's state image.
intensity scales how far the lift travels (0.7 is the everyday
default); duration is how long it runs. Keep both modest so the gesture
reads as body language, not a glitch.
Notes
@perk is a Pixi-stage gesture effect - a one-shot reaction that returns
the sprite exactly where it started.
