@nod

Dip a sprite's head down and back - a gesture of agreement or acknowledgement.

Use @nod to dip a shown sprite down and return it to its starting position. It adds a physical gesture of agreement or acknowledgment to a spoken line, or lets a character respond without words.

Lower intensity for a restrained response and raise it for stronger agreement. Change duration to fit the pace of the conversation; the gesture leaves the sprite's frame and placement unchanged when it finishes.

The story waits for the nod by default. Set wait=false when dialogue or another event should begin during the gesture. Give overlapping motion on the same sprite a playback check so its combined movement fits the reaction.

Parameters

ParameterKindRequiredDefaultNotes
targetstringyes""Sprite tag to target.
intensitynumberno0.70-1 × multiplier. Default 0.7.
durationnumberno0.450.2-1.5 seconds. Default 0.45.
waitbooleannotrueBlock for the effect's duration when true; false fires and continues so effects can overlap.

Canonical example

sprite show ada
say "Ada": "Okay, I trust you."
@nod(target=ada)

@nod plays a short downward head-dip on the sprite that target matches, then settles back to rest. It reads as agreement or acknowledgement without swapping the sprite's state image.

intensity scales how far the dip travels (0.7 is the everyday default); duration is how long it runs. Keep both modest so the gesture reads as body language, not a glitch.

Notes

@nod is one of five gesture effects (@nod, @headshake, @flinch, @perk, @slump) - each a one-shot reaction that returns the sprite exactly where it started. It runs on the Pixi stage.
